I'm going on vacation next week to the beach.  I'm very  much looking forward to it.  I'm going with several friends.  We vacation together all the time.  This year however, they want to institute a "no phones on vacation" policy.  I am the only one objecting to this.  The plan they want in place is to turn your phone off all day.  At the end of the day, turn it on to see if there's any emergency messages or texts, and if not, then turn it off again until the same time the next night.  I cannot do this.  I am someone who likes to be in touch with my job, with my family and just the world as a whole.   I don't want to use it at dinner or anything like that, but I do want to know I can check messages when I want to and that I can see what's going on in the world.  Still they are all about "unplugging" and just enjoying the beach.  I get it, I really do, but I'm someone who wants to stay in touch. Again, not being obnoxious about it, but I want my phone with me all day.  So I ask you...what would you do?  Could you do a "no phones on vacation" thing?  Or are you like me?  And don't you think my friends should do what they want and let me do what I want?  What would you do in my situation?
