Today's social dilemma came from an email I received from Sophia. This has happened to me before so it had me wondering if it's happened to you too. Here's the email. Hi Jaime I love listening to your show while I'm prepping for my day in my classroom. I'm a high school teacher so I get in an hour and a half before the kids and I always get ready for the day listening to TRY. I love your social dilemmas and I have one of my own that happened to me last week. I was getting gas at a station near the school I teach at and I noticed there was a young woman also getting gas at the same time. She was on the other side of the pump that I was on. While she was putting gas in her car, she was also texting on her phone. I had always heard you should never use your phone while near the gas pump because the electricity could somehow start a fire. So I wanted to give this young woman that information. So I politely told her that using your phone near a gas pump was dangerous. She looked at me like I was crazy, finished her text, stopped pumping her gas, never said a word and drove away. Do you think I scared her? Do you think it was wrong of me to say something? I truly was just telling her to be helpful. Plus being a teacher, it just comes natural to me to teach. I didn't mean anything by it and I hope she takes what I said to heart. What would you have done in that situation? I look forward to hearing you talk about this. Thanks so much Jaime, and thanks for getting me going in the morning ~ Sophia. Well, this has happened to me in the past. I told someone once not to pump their gas while leaving their car running and got a "mind your own business" in return. So I'm not sure what the right answer is. I guess it's always best to say something to try to help. What would you do in this situation? Let's help Sophia out. Let me know on the TRY Facebook page.
