Cashless Tolling Will Be In Place in NYS By the End of the Month!

Do you have your EZ Pass yet? Might be time to get one as soon the New York State Thruway will be completely cashless. That means no more getting your ticket and paying your toll when you get off the Thruway. It is expected that cashless tolling will be completely in place by the end of this month. If you don't have an EZ Pass, a camera will take a picture of your license plate and send you a bill in the mail. If you don't drive the Thruway that often, that might not be a big deal, but if you drive it on a fairly regular basis, EZ Pass is the easiest and quickest way to go. Plus when you have EZ Pass it works in other States as well. Now since this will all happen by the end of the month, that means toll booths will start being removed. That process will start at the beginning of next year and should be completed by mid 2021. It's going to be strange to drive down the Thruway and not see any toll booths. It's truly the end of an era. But let's face it, this is progress. So if you don't have your EZ Pass yet, think about getting it...maybe for a Christmas present! What do you think of the cashless tolling? I think it's the right thing but it doesn't mean I won't miss chatting with the toll collectors as I drive by.
