Social Dilemma: My Sister in Law Is Giving Me Unsolicited Parenting Advice

Today's 98.3 TRY Social Dilemma came from Ginny and it's about parenting advice from a family member. Here's her email: Hi Jaime. I'm having family issues  My sister in law keeps giving me unsolicited advice about raising my children, from their diet to their screen time, even though her own kids are, frankly, a mess. I've been polite so far, but it's getting on my nerves. This is my husband's brother's wife. My husband keeps telling me to ignore it, but it just keeps coming. Should I tell her off once and for all, or keep biting my tongue for family peace? Is there a way to set boundaries without causing a family feud? Help me out. Thanks so much ~ Ginny. This is tough, because when family is involved, there is no getting around the fact that you are going to be in each other's orbit. I would nicely say, thank you for the advice, but we're raising our kids our way. It might be different from how you do it, but we're okay with it. See if kindness works. If not, then you might have to be a little stronger with your words. That's my take anyway. What do you think? Let's help Ginny out and let me know on the TRY Facebook page.
