Social Dilemma: My Wife Won't Throw Away Old Pots and Pans

Today's 98.3 TRY Social Dilemma came from Noah and it's about using old pots and pans. Here's his email: Hi Jaime. I'm having an issue with my wife I hope you and your listeners can help with. So when my wife and I got married 13 years ago, her mother gave us some used pots and pans so we didn’t have to buy any. They were great and we’ve used them so much that now they look like they will never be clean. We now of course, have the money to buy really nice new pots and pans, but my wife will not budge. The ones her mom gave us are literally covered in black and when I suggested that we get nice new pots and pans she flipped out on me. She was appalled that I suggested we get rid of the pots and pans her mother gave to us and apparently have been with her family since she was a kid. Just wondering if you think I was unreasonable and off base for suggesting we get new pots and pans because the old ones are all burned and disgusting.  Do a lot of people have an emotional attachment to old pots and pans? Hope you can help. Thanks so much ~ Noah Well, I understand emotional attachments to objects, but as I get older, I feel that less and less. Perhaps Noah can tell his wife they can keep the pots and pans in the basement or in the attic, but buy new ones to actually use. I think I would try that. What do you think? How would you handle this? Do you have an emotional attachment to pots and pans? Let's help Noah out and let me know on the TRY Facebook page.
