28 Year Ago Yesterday, An Arena Was Born in Albany!

We're so lucky...there are a bunch of great concerts coming to the Times Union Center this year and next.  Def Leppard/Journey, Elton John and more.  Plus the sporting events, Siena basketball, our new Arena Football team and more.  And it all started 28 years ago yesterday when the Knickerbocker Arena formally opened it's doors with a concert by the Chairman of the Board himself.    Frank Sinatra opened and played to a sold out crowd as the first performer at the then-Knickerbocker Arena.  Since then, it was the Pepsi Arena, and now of course, the Times Union Center, but name changes haven't stopped it from being an important stop for entertainers of all kinds.   Over the years, we've seen Paul McCartney, Elton John and Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen and more play there.  And it will continue.  The Times Union Center just had a beautiful makeover with an atrium and big LED screens facing onto South Pearl Street.   Hard to believe it's been 28 years, but it has!  I, for one, am glad we have such a beautiful arena in our backyard!
