'Emotional Support Chicken' Now Available To Help Ease Holiday Stress

Frequent fryers take note: Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen has a novel solution for all those holiday travelers who need some extra companionship and emotional support while flying the friendly skies.

Travelers passing through Philadelphia International Airport can stop and treat themselves to a 3-piece chicken tenders combo, served in its very own "emotional support chicken" carrier at the Popeyes chain located in Terminal C, the chain announced on Tuesday.

The boxes are available while supplies last.

"We know holiday travel can be frustrating, and there’s no better way to ease stress than with a box of delicious Popeyes fried chicken and a good laugh,” said Hope Diaz, CMO of Popeyes in a press release released on Tuesday. "We appreciate how comforting emotional support animals are and wanted to create our own version. The good news is that our emotional support chicken is permitted to fly without any restrictions – one less worry for busy travelers!”

The "emotional support chicken" is described by the company as its own version of "emotional support animals" that have pushed the limits for what airlines will allow on-board during flights.

Delta recently revised their rules for passengers to bring emotional support animals on board their planes, saying that the company is no longer allowing emotional support animals on flights over 8 hours long. All animals must also be older than four months old.

The new rules went into effect today, just before the holiday travel rush.

In January, a woman was barred from bringing her "emotional support peacock" on a United flight, even after she offered to purchase the bird its own seat. Another passenger was removed from Frontier airlines in October after she attempted to fly with her "emotional support squirrel."
