Bitter cold weather is gripping the Capital Region today, with temperatures dropping to the single digits and even below zero in some areas. According to NEWS10 ABC, an Arctic front has brought a blast of cold air, leading to potentially record-breaking lows overnight. The high today is only expected to reach about 20 degrees.

The National Weather Service in Albany reported that the Adirondacks could see temperatures as low as -12 degrees, making it the coldest spot in the United States this morning. Wind chills are even lower, especially in higher terrain and northern valleys. The Democrat and Chronicle notes that the Arctic front is also bringing scattered snow showers and squalls, particularly north and west of the Capital District.

Residents are advised to bundle up, wear layers, and ensure they have proper footwear like boots when heading outdoors. The cold weather pattern is expected to persist through the weekend, with temperatures remaining below normal. A gradual warm-up is anticipated starting Friday afternoon, but lows will still dip into the single digits and teens.
