Social Dilemma-What Do You Do When You Get A BackHanded Compliment?

Okay today's social dilemma happened over the weekend at a dinner party I went to.  Some good friends of mine had it, but there were quite a few people there.  It was held at a restaurant, and I knew they wanted it to be kind of fancy, so as you know, I don't wear makeup very often and don't dress too fancy usually. But, I feel that I clean up well when necessary. So when I went to the dinner party, I had on a nice outfit and did my makeup and hair. An acquaintance of mine said something along the lines of, "You look so pretty! I was just talking about if you did your makeup all the time and had some nice clothes,  you could look really beautiful." I was like what? Thanks, I guess.  Classic backhanded compliment.  I wanted to say something nasty, but chose to take the high road, especially since the party was for my friends.  But what would you have done if someone said this to you?   And has anyone ever done something like that to you...backhanded compliment?  Let me know.  I was in shock for the rest of the night, and clearly I can't stop thinking about it.  I like my comfortable relaxed self.  What would you do?  Let me know on the 98-3 TRY Facebook page.
