It seems like "jukebox musicals" are all the rage now. It started with Mamma Mia using all the songs of ABBA, then we had Movin' Out with Billy Joel Songs, Jersey Boys about the Four Seasons, On Your Feet about Gloria Estefan, Summer, The Donna Summer Musical, and coming in November, The Cher Show. Well, there's another name we can add to that list. A musical based on Michael Jackson is in development, and it's on track to make a Broadway premiere in 2020. There aren't many details . . . but it's probably safe to assume that the production will focus on his music career, not the child abuse allegations. Especially since his estate is involved. His music WILL be included . . . but there isn't any confirmation on what songs they're using, or how they'll be used. Some of these musicals are great like Jersey Boys, Mamma Mia and On Your Feet, others not so much, like Summer and Movin' Out. We'll have to wait and see where this one falls. Would you go see it? I think I would.
