I'm a little melancholy this morning. Such sad news came out over the weekend about a mainstay in the Capital Region. Grandma's Pie Shop on Central Avenue is closing it's doors forever after 42 years. Grandma's has been such a special part of our lives over the course of the years. My mom has LOVED their pies for as long as I can remember. And I'm a big fan of that wonderful Swiss Chocolate Almond Pie. Plus we would always take friends there for lunch or dinner when they were visiting in town because we knew we could count on a good meal and an even better dessert. Now the word is that Grandma's will be closing it's doors forever this Sunday at 4pm. No more Swiss Chocolate Almond, no more Banana Split Cream Pie. It's truly the end of an era. We'll miss you Grandma's, but thank you so much for all the joy you brought to so many lives. Not only those of us who live here in the area, but those friends and family members who came from out of town and always enjoyed a wonderful meal. Godspeed to Dave and Ron, the owners and all the staff who worked there. You may be gone, but will never be forgotten.
