Social Dilemma-Do You Taste Test Grapes in the Grocery Store?

Today's social dilemma came about because I took my mom grocery shopping the other day, and I feel like we have this conversation every single year.   We're in the produce section, and it's grape season and my mom LOVES grapes, so we're looking whether to buy red or green grapes, and she says well taste them and see which ones are sweeter.   To which I reply I don't think you're supposed to do that.  She said it's fine and everyone does it, and she tastes one of each and decides to go with the green.  Now I would be lying to you if I said I had never done it, but it's been quite a while.  It just stopped feeling right.  Anyway, I happened to see the produce manager, and I explained about my mom and said I would happily pay for her trying out the grapes.  He laughed and said don't worry about it, people do it all the time.  As long as it's one or two, it's not a big deal.  The grapes are open so people give them a try and if it makes people buy them then it's a win for everyone.  That didn't feel right to me either.   However I have seen people eat handfuls of them as they walk through the store, that makes me crazy.   So I ask you this morning.
