Today's social dilemma came from a friend of mine. Sadly her dog, who was 17 years old, passed away recently. She wanted to take a few days off to mourn, and I completely understand that. Losing your furry friend is like losing a member of the family. I mean they are a member of the family. The problem came when she wanted to use her Bereavement time. Now, when one of my babies passed away a few years ago, I took a personal day, but my friend thinks she should be able to take Bereavement time because her dog WAS a member of her immediate family. As much as I agree that pets are part of the family, I still think this is a personal time issue and not Bereavement Time. Her boss feels like I do, and now she's battling her company. What do you think? Should you be able to use bereavement time when your pet passes. Let me know on the TRY Facebook page.
