I can't believe I'm writing this but yesterday, it was announced that the TV show Nashville is going to be adapted for the Broadway stage. The show ran for six seasons total, four on ABC and two on CMT. The show will have a completely new score but the characters from the show will remain the same. That means we'll get to see the characters of Rayna James, Juliette Barnes, Deacon Clayborne, Scarlett, Gunner, Avery and the rest of the gang. Of course, they'll be played by different actors, but I still want to see how their story unfolds on the stage! As I said there will be an entirely new country musical score. Tony Award winner Scott Delman will produce the show and he has a rich history of making hits. He produced Book of Mormon, Mean Girls and the Hello Dolly revival! In Delman's statement, he said, “From that rich (Nashville) DNA, we will be building an original story with entirely original music, written by major Nashville and Broadway songwriters. We are particularly excited to deliver Broadway’s first score of true contemporary country music – a genre that has exploded with mainstream audiences in recent years.” It sounds like this could be a big hit. Let's just hope there's as much soap opera type drama and great music as there was in the TV show. Oh and let's not forget the divas...we need our divas.
