Social Dilemma-Would You Go to a Baby Sprinkle??

Today's social dilemma came about because of an invitation I received in the mail when I returned from the TRY Cruise. I guess it had come last week. Anyway, I have a friend, an acquaintance really, who is pregnant with her second child. Everyone is very happy for her. Her first is about a year and a half old, and they wanted to have another and now they are. Great news right?!?! Well, then I and several other friends of mine got an invitation to her "baby sprinkle." I had never heard of a baby sprinkle before, but apparently it's a smaller party for a woman having a subsequent baby. Apparently, the idea is that the mom doesn’t need all of the gifts but does deserve some gifts, good food, and good wishes before the delivery. Now I'm all about love and wishing good things for people, but I admit I thought this was a little crazy. If it was just family and let's say best friends, maybe I could get it, but I'm really not that close to this woman and neither are some of the others who have gotten invitations. And what kind of gifts are we supposed to bring. Gifts for mom or gifts for the baby?!? I'm up for a party, but I just feel like asking for gifts again for a second baby, especially when your first is only a year and a half old seems a little greedy. But maybe that's just me.
