Today is the day that Madison VanDenburg gets to come home!! Maddie has made it to the finale for American Idol. And today she brings the crew back to the Capital Region with her for a party at Shaker High for her and her friends. Then a parade from Metro Park Road into the Crossings of Colonie! No cars will be allowed into the Crossings but you can catch the shuttles from Shaker High to and from the park. Maddie will be putting on a live performance in the park and again, the Idol crew will be there. I know it's a rainy day but don't let that stop you from coming out for all the fun! Let's show the country what big fans we are of Madisons! So come out to the Crossings this afternoon and see our very own American Idol, Madison VanDenburg perform!! She's the best!! The event at Shaker starts at 1:30 p.m. and is for students only. That will be followed by a parade, beginning at approximately 4:15 p.m., traveling from Metro Park Road into The Crossings, where VanDenburg will perform. The parade and performance are free and open to the public. Backpacks and coolers will not be allowed into The Crossings.
The town of Colonie has issued the following details regarding parking, shuttles and road closures.
There will be no parking at The Crossings except for media, volunteers and deliveries. The entrance to The Crossings at Albany-Shaker Road will be closed to all traffic beginning at noon Tuesday.
Free shuttle buses provided by CDTA will be available. Transportation for the public will run from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Tuesday from the Shaker High School parking lot to The Crossings. CDTA buses will also be available for rides back to the Shaker parking lot after the event.
Parking will be available with shuttle service from Shaker High School. If parking is full at Shaker, parking will be available at Our Lady of Assumption (498 Watervliet-Shaker Road) and board the shuttle there. Shuttles will run at 2:30, 3, 3:15, 3:30 and 3:45 p.m. and return after the performance. This shuttle is handicap accessible.
Shuttles will run continuously from the following locations and return after the performance:
- Parking will be available with shuttle service from the north lot of Macy's at Colonie Center. This is the lot located across from Staybridge Suites. This shuttle is handicap accessible and starts at 3 p.m.
- Parking will be available with shuttle service from Sand Creek School on Sand Creek Road. This shuttle is handicap accessible and starts at 3:30 p.m.
- Parking will be available with shuttle service at Shaker Road Fire Station on Albany-Shaker Road. This shuttle, not handicap accessible, will start at 3 p.m.
Designated parking without shuttles:
- Beltrone Event Parking Lot (lot before the Beltrone Center)
- Ciccotti Family Recreation Center
Road closures:
- The Crossings at Colonie entrance on Albany-Shaker Road will be closed to all vehicles from noon Tuesday until Wednesday.
- The intersection of Metro Park Road and Aviation Road will be closed for approximately 30 minutes between 4 and 4:30 p.m. for the parade.
