Social Dilemma-Do You Have To Serve Corn on the Cob & Watermelon At A BBQ?

Today's social dilemma came from Bella. It's about a backyard bbq for the holiday. Here's her email. Hi Jaime, my name is Bella and I have a bit of an issue for the Fourth of July. My family and I have been invited to a friend's house for a backyard bbq. We know the family well and they're not having a lot of people. We all believe in social distancing and masks so we feel good about going. So of course I asked if I could bring something like watermelon or salad. She said no thank you and that she had everything under control. She did say that they were not going to have watermelon or corn on the cob because it was too much of a pain. I said I would be happy to bring both but she said no thanks and that was that. Well, now my family doesn't want to go because we all kind of feel that a bbq isn't a bbq without those items. I would happily bring them, but now I feel like I would be doing something against her wishes if I did since she specifically said no. Do you think it's okay for me to bring them? Should I call back and explain how much we love those items, or should we just go and eat whatever she has? It normally wouldn't be such a big deal, but this is really the first time we've ventured outside of our bubble and thought it would be fun to have all the things we love. What would you do? Are we being too picky? Hope you can help me out. Thanks so much Jaime. Love listening every morning~ Bella. Well, I'm with Bella, a bbq isn't a bbq without corn and watermelon. That being said, I think you would have to decide what's most important, the food or the company. And personally, I would still bring the watermelon because that something she could cut up and just put on the table. The corn would be more difficult. What do you think? Would that be overstepping? Let's help Bella out. Let me know on the TRY Facebook page.
