Social Dilemma-Is It Okay to Pour Out Water From a Bottle in a Parking Lot?

Today's social dilemma happened to me over the weekend while I was off. I couldn't wait to ask you about it. Here's what happened. I went to the grocery store over the weekend early in the morning. That's what I do every week. Anyway, after shopping, which took me about an hour, I got back into my car, and realized my water, which was about a third full, had gotten hot and undrinkable. So I opened the door to pour out the water, and keep the bottle in my car to put in my recyclable bag at home. Well, a gentleman saw me doing that and yelled at me. Now I park farther back in the lot so I can walk a little and get some exercise, but he saw and came walking over. He said we shouldn't pour anything out in the parking lot. I explained it was just water, and he said it's germs and you shouldn't do it. So I apologized and went home. I really didn't think it was a big deal. It's water, like rain, but it is the time of covid and I certainly wouldn't want anyone to get my germs, so was I wrong to pour out the water in the parking lot?
