Looks like we'll be saying goodbye to Uncle Ben's rice, and that logo of a white haired black man. Uncle Ben's parent company Mars, Inc is changing the name to Ben's Original and getting rid of the logo altogether. Many critics have said the image of a black man with a bowtie evokes servitude, and it has long been criticized as a racial stereotype. Mars will have the new Ben's Original packaging in stores in 2021. So far, no new image has been decided on to accompany the new name. Uncle Ben's is not the first product to change their branding in the wake of the Black Lives Matter protests. Aunt Jemima and Eskimo Pie are other brands that are retiring racial logos, thankfully. What do you think of the new name, Ben's Original? I think it's great! And a long time coming. What about you?
