Well, this is pretty cool! The Upstate Concert Hall in Clifton Park is planning on moving to downtown Albany. They will be moving into the old Capital Repertory Space at 111 North Pearl Street! They hope to turn that area into a two stage facility so that as many 1,300 people could come in for a concert. Upstate Concert Hall has been around in different incarnations like Park West and Northern Lights since 1996. There have been great shows there, both big and small. Great local acts have played along with national acts like the late Eddie Money, Blue Oyster Cult and even Vanilla Ice and Snoop Dogg. Obviously construction will have to be done to the building, but as to when it reopens, that will be more about when State restrictions ease regarding Covid-19. Right now, concerts inside are not really being allowed. But Covid won't last forever, and there will be more fun to be had. I think having the Upstate Concert Hall will add a certain electricity to it. Where it sits now in Clifton Park is in a strip mall, so there's not any people just walking around the area. Where it will now be in downtown Albany where there are restaurants, bars, clubs and stores, it will be more alive. I can't wait to check it out when it opens.
And don't forget Capital Rep has moved to their new location, which is also on North Pearl Street, just a few blocks away at 251 N. Pearl!
