Starting this Sunday, there is an addition to the New York State seat belt law. Beginning on November 1st, EVERYONE in the car has to buckle up. Up until now, anyone over the age of 16 sitting in the backseat was not required to buckle up. Obviously kids have always been required to buckle up no matter where they sat. There will be a grace period with just warnings being issued, but once enforcement does begin, the person in the backseat not wearing the belt will be issued a ticket for a maximum of $50. So while most of us have probably been buckling up for a long time, if you've been sitting in the backseat and not clicking your belt, make sure you start doing it! On Sunday it will be the law!
