The Weeknd Will Be the Superbowl Halftime Performer!

The Weeknd will do the halftime show at the 2021 Super Bowl . . . which is scheduled for February 7th at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida. The Weeknd says, quote, "We all grow up watching the world's biggest acts playing the Super Bowl and one can only dream of being in that position. I'm humbled, honored and ecstatic to be the center of that infamous stage this year." JAY-Z obviously had some say in the choice, given his partnership with the NFL. And he said, quote, "The Weeknd has introduced a sound all his own. His soulful uniqueness has defined a new generation of greatness in music and artistry. "This is an extraordinary moment in time and [the show] is going to be an extraordinary experience with an extraordinary performer."

Now don't get me wrong, I think The Weeknd is fantastic. But I feel like he just doesn't have the UMPH needed for this year's halftime show. Me? I would have preferred to see some old school funk on the stage. Nile Rodgers and Chic along with Earth, Wind and Fire and Patti LaBelle. Maybe bring Boyz II Men in as well. But that's just me. I just thought this year being what it is, some familiarity would be nice and fun, and that's a show we all could get behind. But I do enjoy The Weeknd and I'll be watching. My guess is he'll probably blow the roof off the place and be incredible, but I'm an old school girl. So what do you think? Are you glad it's The Weeknd? Who would you like to see perform?
