Tonight's the night! The Wolf Moon, otherwise known as the first full moon of 2021, will be high in the sky tonight. So why is it the Wolf Moon. Apparently it got it's name because wolves were heard howling more during the colder months, probably because they were hungry...but who knows if that's true, but that's what the Old Farmer's Almanac says. My dog Leo howls whenever he hears a squeaky toy though so who knows why wolves howl. The moon should have a distinct orange color as it rises and sets. And check this out. Wolf Moon is not the only name for the first full moon of the year. There's Cold Moon, Severe Moon, Frost Exploding Moon (my fav), Hard Moon and Freeze Up Moon. And next month on February 27th, we can look forward to the Snow Moon, that's the second full moon of the year! Hmmm, can we please make it the No-Snow Moon?
