Aunt Jemima will soon be gone forever, and it's about time. Let's face it, the Aunt Jemima character was based on a racial stereotype and shouldn't have lasted as long as it did. Finally Quaker Oats is changing the name of the Aunt Jemima products to Pearl Milling Company. According to WTEN, Pearl Milling Company was the originator of the self rising pancake mix, and that's how they came up with the name after consulting employees, customers and experts on branding. Aunt Jemima pancake mix and syrup will be on store shelves until June. After that, they will become Pearl Milling Company Products. Along with the name change, Quaker will be donating one million dollars to groups that empower Black women and girls. The brand Pearl Milling Company will obviously be new on shelves in June, but the packaging will have the same colors as the Aunt Jemima packaging. So what do you think of the new name? I'm all for it.
