When Ally McBeal premiered in 1997, it immediately became a pop sensation! EVERYONE watched! The show lasted for five seasons, and probably would have gone on longer, but star Calista Flockhart didn't want to play the character anymore. Well now comes word that an Ally McBeal limited series revival is in the works with Calista Flockhart now ready to reprise her iconic role. Glens Falls native David E. Kelly was the man behind the series originally and he said he would be involved but would want more women on the staff to show where Ally is all these years later. In addition to Flockhart, the original cast included Courtney Thorne-Smith, Greg Germann, Lisa Nicole Carson, Jane Krakowski, Peter MacNicol and Gil Bellows. Portia de Rossi and Lucy Liu joined the cast in Season 2. In Season 4, Robert Downey Jr. came on board as a major love interest for the character of Ally.
