We have such a sweet special girl from the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society as our Pet of the Week. Meet Nana. Nana is a 5-year-old hound mix. She came to us from overseas from a very remote space where humans were not seen as a source of anything positive. Nana came to us scared to leave her crate-she needed to be carried everywhere in it! She is currently living in a foster home with one of our best fosters and volunteers, and has slowly been learning that not all humans are scary. She is still very shy and cautious, but is becoming more curious and trusting by the day. Her favorite activities include sunbathing, chasing the bunnies in the yard, and snuggling her toys. Nana is looking for a patient, quiet home. Sudden movements are still very scary to her, so an adult-only home ideally with experience with shy dogs would be best. She is also still afraid of a leash, so having a fenced-in yard is a must so she can have her zoomies to her heart’s content. She does seem dog-social, so a meet and greet is also important-she enjoys calm, social playmates. She is still nervous about being touched, so patience and unconditional love are the most important things.
