Late yesterday, the Times Union Newspaper made the announcement that they are giving up naming rights to the, well, Times Union Center in Albany. Of course, when it first opened, it was the Knickerbocker Arena. Then naming rights were sold to Pepsi and it became the Pepsi Arena. When that contract ended, it took a while for the Arena to find someone to pick up the naming rights, but ultimately it was the Times Union who wanted their name to be associated with big name concerts, sporting events and more. But now, their contract is up and they're not going to renew. So, who will be the new sponsor for the naming rights. What would you like to see the Arena called? Should it go back to a name that means something to the area, or should they find a sponsor to take it on? Albany County Executive Dan McCoy said the county will begin the search for a new naming rights partner immediately. I wish we could go back to the Knickerbocker Arena, but money rules, which I understand. So which business will have it's name on the arena next. We'll have to wait to find out.
