The Tobins First Prize Building Off I-90 Is Being Demolished Starting Today

Well, it's the end of an era in the Capital Region! If you drive down I-90, you can clearly see the old Tobin's First Prize plant. But after this week, you won't be able to see it anymore. Demolition begins today on the building. The plant closed back in 1981 but the building was never torn down. For the community who lives around the plant, it's been an eyesore for decades and has even lowered property values in the area. But now it's going to be gone. Today through March 7th, Exchange Street from Russell Road to Everett Road will be closed for the demolition. I know it's an eyesore and it definitely has to go, but I feel like something will be missing when I drive down I-90 and don't see the big First Prize sign. A little piece of our history gone forever. But for all the right reasons. The building is unsafe and the neighbors around deserve something beautiful in it's place.
