Every day we have more and more news about that slap that occurred on Sunday night at the Oscars. By now we all know that Will Smith took to the stage to slap Chris Rock after Chris made what I thought was a lame joke about Jada Pinkett Smith's hair. Well now the fallout continues. First up, the Academy is continuing their investigation into the incident and yesterday they stated that it will take weeks before a decision is made as to how to handle any discipline that may come Will Smith's way. Secondly, Jada Pinkett Smith made a statement herself yesterday on Instagram (see below) and all it said was “This is the season for healing. And I’m here for it.” Will's mom made a statement saying that she had never seen Will "go off" like that.
Other actors have commented too. Jim Carrey said that Will should have been arrested and escorted out of the Dolby Center. And if that didn't happen he certainly should never have received a standing ovation for winning the Best Actor Oscar. Amy Schumer who was one of the hosts of the event also took to Instagram to make her feelings known (see below). Basically she said she was "Still triggered and traumatized,” adding, “I love my friend [Chris Rock] and believe he handled it like a pro. Stayed up there and gave an Oscar to his friend [Questlove] and the whole thing was so disturbing. So much pain in [Will Smith], anyway I’m still in shock and stunned and sad. I’m proud of myself and my co-hosts. But yeah. Waiting for this sickening feeling to go away from what we all witnessed.”
And lastly, and this isn't surprising at all. Chris Rock begins his standup tour in Boston tonight. And ticket sales for the entire tour are selling faster than people can buy them! Everyone wants to be in the audience to hear Chris' take on what happened. I'm sure we'll find out more tomorrow after his show tonight. You can see the Instagram posts below. Doesn't look like this story is going away anytime soon.
