Pick Me Up: This College Student Helped a Stranger...This is So Beautiful!!

Today's Pick Me Up Story is just beautiful! Imagine heading to the grocery story with your two little grandchildren, getting to the cashier and then realizing you don't have enough money to buy what you need to keep the family fed. That's exactly what happened for one woman last week at the grocery store H E B. When Maria, the bagger, who is a college student, realized that the woman couldn't pay her bill and was going to have to put all the groceries back, Maria decided to take out her own money and pay for the woman's groceries. The woman tried to refuse, but Maria insisted and she paid the bill. It was $137! That's a lot for a college student. But Maria said, "$137 was quite a bit of money for me that day, but still I knew that I would get it back on payday and maybe she wouldn't," But it gets better. On Maria's next shift, she was called into the managers office, and she thought she was in trouble. But it wasn't that. The woman whose groceries she paid for filled out a survey saying how wonderful Maria was. The store's manager, Mark, ended up reimbursing Maria for her good deed. Maria shared the good news in a Facebook post and said:

"I was so grateful for their kindness as well as to the lady for writing the survey. Hearing her words made me realize that it's small things like paying for groceries that can help people out in ways we don’t even know. With that being said: Always be kind and do a good deed for someone when you can. It can be something as simple as holding the door open for a stranger or complimenting them. Good things done always come back in ways we may not even realize. Always be good to the people around you, because you never know what someone else might have going on. Thank you for reading and be kind!"

I just love this story! It's a good lesson for all of us, and a great pick me up for a Monday morning. Let's start the week being kind! Thanks Maria!!
