Meet the sweet Guinea Pigs that are our Pets of the Week from the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society! Guinea pigs are good for children or as starter pets. They are friendlier than hamsters for sure. They can be okay with being held, and they actually purr like cats when they are happy! They are not nocturnal, but they do go to sleep when they are tired. They are social creatures that would thrive being with another guinea pig (but same gender only as they are too small to alter!). They typically live 5-8 years, and the oldest guinea pig we currently have is only one-years-old (Pashmina is the oldest, then Penelope at 7 months, and then Howdy, Jingle, Maxwell, Oxnard, and Stan all at 5 months).
