Local Events and Memorials Happening Today to Honor the Anniversary of 9/11

Today we honor and commemorate the 22nd anniversary of the 9/11 attacks on our freedom. We also honor all the heroes who showed themselves that day helping others. There are several events going on locally if you would like to take part in a public memorial: Here's the list (thanks to the Times Union):

The city of Amsterdam and the Amsterdam Tourism, Marketing & Recreation Department presents a ceremony at Riverlink Park starting at 9:30 a.m. today.  It will be live on the city of Amsterdam Tourism, Marketing & Recreation Department Facebook Page.

Saratoga Springs' ceremony will take place at 8:30 a.m. today at High Rock Park, 112 High Rock Ave., and will feature speakers Kathleen Shaw, who responded with the state Urban/Technical Search and Rescue team, and Lt. Tucker Bonow of the Saratoga Springs Naval Support Activity. In case of inclement weather, it will be moved under the High Rock Park Pavilion.

Melvin Roads American Legion is conducting a Patriot Day remembrance ceremony at noon today at the post parking lot (inside if raining), 200 Columbia Turnpike, East Greenbush. Clinton Heights Fire Company will fly the flag from their aerial ladder truck and perform the last call for emergency workers lost that day, followed by “Taps.” Local officials will attend.

Christian Brothers Academy will open the school year by holding its’ annual flag raising ceremony 8:30 a.m. today (the road will be closed at 8:15 a.m.) The ceremony will include a 9/11 Remembrance and the JROTC Hall of Fame Induction.
