Social Dilemma: Who Gets the Parking Spot?

Today's 98.3 TRY Social Dilemma came from Jeff and it's about parking. Here's his email. Hi Jaime. I don't think I was in the wrong in this situation but now I'm second guessing myself. Here's what happened. The other night my wife Tara and I were out. We pulled up to a restaurant to grab a bite. It was packed but I saw a car with it's reverse lights on. They back out of the spot and I pull in. As we were getting out of the car another car backs up behind me and a guy yells out the window. "We had our blinker on, that was our spot". I said "what are you talking about, I didn't even see you till now". He said that he had passed the spot, but when he saw that car backing out, he put his blinker on." I said, "sorry buddy, you were ahead of the spot and I didn't see ya." To which he replied, "maybe I should block you in, ya jerk!" I just ignored him and walked inside. I think the spot was rightfully mine. I never even saw him because he was so far ahead of the spot. What do you think? Should I have given him the spot? What would you have done? Thanks ~ Jeff. This is tough. I have been in these situations on both ends. When someone starts yelling at me that I took their spot, first I try to get them to calm down, and if they're really that upset, I'll give them the spot, whether it should be mine or not. It's not worth the fight for me. As someone who has been waiting for a spot that was taken by someone else, I've been upset, but just driven away and looked for another. So what would you have done? Let's help Jeff out and let me know on the TRY Facebook page.
