Social Dilemma: Was It A Big Deal That I Let My 13 YO Try Some Beer?

Today's 98.3 TRY Social Dilemma came from Carl and it's about beer and teenagers. Here's his email: Hi Jaime. I did something and I don't think it's a big deal, but I'm catching some heat for it. My wife and I got into a fight the other night because she saw my 13-year-old daugher sipping my beer. I told her I said it was ok and now she’s mad at both of us. I told my wife when I was around my daughter's age my dad let me sip his beer so I didn’t think it was such a big deal. She on the other hand thought it was a huge deal and wouldn’t let my daughter taste beer or any other alcohol until she was at least 16. She said that’s when she tried her first alcoholic beverage. I didn’t think 3 years would make such a big difference. Anyway we debated about it for what felt like an eternity and now were still ticked off at each other. My 13-year-old daughter on the other hand told me she hates the taste of beer and doesn’t want to try it anytime soon again so my wife should be happy I let her try it. Who do you think is right? Thanks ~ Carl. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't tasted beer and wine by the time I was 13. That being said, this is a different time, and I don't think I would let my 13 year old niece or nephew (or child if I had one) try it now. It feels wrong to me. But that's just me. What do you think? Let's help Carl out and let me know on the TRY Facebook page.
