Today's 98.3 TRY Social Dilemma is about an internet scam, and it's upsetting. Here's the email: Hi Jaime. Help! My 70 year old mother has been talking to a 40 something year old man who she believes is a dentist in Brazil. They have been in communication for 5 months and my step dad caught her just a week ago. This is a love scam. This man has 6 different instagrams, will not talk to her on the phone. Never face times and never met. Its pathetic and devastating. She admitted to sending him 3-4 thousand dallars in gift cards already. My step dad is heart broken and is trying to get her to believe it's a scam. He didn't want to tell us kids out of embarrassment but finally broke down crying to me about it two days ago. She does not believe this is a scam. My mom is a normal lady and a wonderful mom. Never seen her or my step dad fight or even argue. He is a retired dentist also so I feel this scammer seeked out my mom and targeted her by somehow finding out my step father was a dentist as well. She has art on Instagram and he started talking to her professionally about her art and soon started flirting, luring her in , and now she thinks she is love. I am distraught, embarrassed and am feeling helpless. Please help. I need advice desperately. Thanks ~ Kelly This is so tough. I know a few people that have been scammed in different ways online. I think I would tell her step dad to take all the money out of the account so she can't send anymore to him. Or maybe hire a computer expert to help her mom realize it's a scammer. This is tough.
