Today's 98.3 TRY Social Dilemma came from Brian and it's a difficult topic. Here's his email: Hi Jaime. I'm looking for help anywhere I can find it. My parents started attending a new church a little over a year ago. They’ve always been religious and when I was a kid, we would hop around to different churches, so they never really had a church where they belonged. This new church is an independent non-denominational church that’s only been around for a few years, but my parents really took to the pastor and other parishioners. Now they’ve completely shut out everyone in their lives that aren’t part of the church. They’ve also been giving so much money to the church that it’s starting to affect their finances. I said something to them about my concerns and since then they’ve been acting differently towards me. I don’t know if there’s like a government agency out there that can help, but I think this church is a cult and it’s got its hooks in my parents. What should I do? Should I mind my business or should I try to get help. Thanks ~ Brian This is tough. Obviously Brian's parents can do whatever they want as long as they're not hurting anyone, but it does sound a little suspect if they're cutting out people that don't agree with them, and that includes their son. I'm not sure what the right answer is here. I think I would try to have a calm sit down with them, maybe get a therapist involved. What do you think?
