Social Dilemma: Is It Tacky to Hand Out Drink Tickets at a Wedding?

Today's 98.3 TRY Social Dilemma came from Nick and it's about his daughter's wedding. Here's the email: Hi Jaime. My daughter and her fiancé will be married in a few months, and we’re now in the planning stages. I'm old fashioned so I want to pay for the wedding, but my daughter wants an “open bar,” which sounds great, but our budget really can't handle that because you can't control how much people will drink. But I came up with a compromise. I mentioned to my daughter and her future husband the idea of giving each guest three drink tickets…that way we can control what we’re paying for. My daughter says this is “tacky” and “bad form.” And she's upset I can't just go all in on an open bar. Are drink tickets really worse than having a full-on cash bar? I thought it was a good compromise. What do you think? Is it tacky, or a fair way for people to get some free drinks? Help me out so I can convince my daughter. Thanks ~ Nick. I think it's a fine idea. There are all kinds of things that go on at weddings now, and I say drink tickets are a good way to keep costs done. I went to a wedding where we got drink tickets. Didn't bother me at all. What do you think? Let's help Nick out and let me know on the TRY Facebook page.
