S Dilemma: Should Mom Help Her 16 YO Son Quit His Job By Doing it For Him?

Today's 98.3 TRY Social Dilemma is about helping or not helping your child. Here's the email: Hi Jaime. My name is Melody and I have a 16-year-old son who wants me to quit his job for him because he’s afraid of his boss and is afraid the guy is going to freak out on him. I’m wondering if I should help him or not. To give you some background he started working at an ice cream spot by our house over the summer and at first he loved it because the owner was rarely there and he worked with his friends. The owner then fired the manager and started managing the shop and the fun was over for my son and his friends. One by one his friends quit the job and the boss would yell at them when they told him they were moving on. One of his friends gave two weeks notice and the guy threw him out right on the spot. My son stuck with the job because he’s a hard worker and the boss didn’t bother him and he really liked having his own money. Now he’s afraid to quit even though he’s never had words with the owner and the owner likes him. His wrestling season is about to start and he really wants to focus on that and not working at the ice cream parlor. So what should I do? Go in and tell his boss he cant work there anymore or make him do it? Thanks ~ Melody. This is a simple one for me. Make the son quit his job. This is real life and the only way to be prepared for real life is to live it. The boss isn't going to harm him, he might yell or ask him to leave immediately. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the boss' behavior is appropriate, but it's life. That's my take anyway. What do you think? What would you do? Let's help Melody out and let me know on the TRY Facebook page.
