Social Dilemma: Should You Get Extra Recognition at Your Job?

Today's 98.3 TRY Social Dilemma came from Vicki and it's about her position at her office. Here's her email: Hi Jaime. I need advice. In my opinion, I’m the most valuable person at my workplace. I know how much I do and people in my office don’t realize how difficult it would be for them if I didn’t consistently keep the business on track, but I get no recognition for all the hard work that I do. On one hand, I know it’s my job to do this, but on the other, I wish they would recognize how integral I am to the business. Sometimes I feel like quitting just so they can realize how much they depend on me. Should I do it? Should I start looking for a new job where I’ll be appreciated? Thanks for the help. ~ Vicki. Well, Vicki might not like my way of looking at this. I think it's always important to be appreciated. Please and thank you can never be overused. That being said, this is work, and as long as you're doing your job, getting paid and not being abused, that's pretty much the contract you signed up for at work. If I were Vicki I might say something to her supervisor like it's nice to get a thank you now and then, but you never know how that's going to land. What do you think?
