An Elizaville woman is accused of stealing money from a local Cub Scout Pack.

Investigators with the Columbia County Sheriff's Office says Jenny Smith, the treasurer for Germantown Cub Pack 115, made checks out to cash and forged another person's name.

Smith, 32, is charged with Forgery (2nd Degree, Class-D Felony). She was arrested on Saturday, June 14, by Sergeant Eli Fieser and arraigned in Germantown Town Court before the Honorable Robert Beaury, released on her own recognizance. This case will be transferred to Columbia County Court, authorities said.

Back on April 3, the Sheriff’s Office was notified that checks were being made out to cash and one of the names authorized to sign was being forged on the checks that required two signatures.  Through an extensive investigation, it was found that the first check was forged in December 2012 and that continued through November 2013, authorities said. The total amount of money allegedly taken from the account was $1,516.

The Columbia County District Attorney’s Office assisted in this investigation.
